Agnosia is a loss of ability to recognize objects, persons, sounds, shapes, or smells while the specific sense is not defective nor is there any significant memory loss.
It is usually associated with brain injury or neurological illness (Strokes). Many Agnosia patients, even though their difficulty in perceiving their environment, performs well in their familiar environment. However, when they are in places where they are not familiar with, they have hard time navigating themselves within the building. Due to this many Agnosia patients hesitate to travel new places, which also limit their social life. It sounds similar to blind people’s condition, but Agnosia patients have ability to perceive colors and
contrasts. (According to many cases they find people or paths by colors, higher contrast color works much better than opaque colors.) Therefore if we can help them feel comfortable in strange space, wouldn’t that help them to interact within the space better?
